Dusting Interior Logs

I own a log cabin built in 1934 how do i clean the interior logs of years of dust and grime.

Depending on the log style this may prove the hardest part of caring for your log cabin interior. I do get discouraged when dusting the logs and i ve never been able to solve this problem. I get discouraged because when i use cloths the threads get stuckin the splintered logs and tear away. Vacuuming wiping with swiffer dusting clothes have not really helped.

A tight log home seal chinking is a sealant product specifically used to seal gaps between logs and it s the best way to seal a log home from outside dust and particles. The simple solution would be to try a cleanser like murphy s oil soap. It helps to have a plastic wallpaper tray at the bottom of the wall to catch the runoff. I live in a log home built in 1977.

There is a hierarchy of remedies for dust and grime on interior logs depending on the level of buildup the finish of the logs and your propensity for elbow grease. We use murphy s oil soap on interior logs and it works well. If your log home wasn t chinked when it was built and you re worried about outside pollutants infiltrating your home it might be best to consult a log home professional.

Instead of using vacuum all the time sometimes i like to dust the logs by just wiping them down. Entire house is log interior including cathedral ceiling in main room. A feather duster or dust rag is fine for cleaning shelves and such but neither one is much good when you need to get into the tiny cracks and crevices of chandeliers wicker furniture or baskets. Interior log home wall cleaning makes a mess because the cleaning solution can drip down the logs.
